Staines Upon Thames Day

As you may be aware, Staines has recently changed its name to Staines-upon-Thames. To celebrate the name change, the Mayor of Spelthorne is holding a great family event, Staines-upon-Thames Day, on Sunday 20 May 2012 in the Memorial Gardens.

There will be a celebration of the town’s name change and an exciting range of riverside activities including a charity duck race, boat trips and boat club races. A fascinating exhibition from Spelthorne Museum and the repositioning of the replica London Stone are being planned to engage communities in the town’s rich heritage, history and tradition.

The event is intended to improve awareness and encourage increased recreational and commercial use of the River Thames. It is anticipated that this fun event will also feature musical entertainment and play host to local sports clubs, community groups and charities who will run stalls, games and demonstrations.

Staines Shopmobility will be manning a stall on the day to raise awareness of its services and will also be fundraising so please come along and support us. We also hope to be able to open the service on this day between 10.30am and 4pm so please let us know if you are interested in using the service on this day. We will update you further when we have more details.

Clerical Medical Donation

We are pleased to report that Clerical Medical, Leaseholder of the Elmsleigh Centre, has donated £10,000 towards the charity’s running costs. This donation was for the financial year 2011/12 and will be included in that year’s accounts. We would like to thank Clerical Medical for their ongoing support of our work and for helping us to keep Staines accessible to people with limited mobility.

Elmsleigh Centre Sponsorship

Staines Shopmobility is pleased to report that the leaseholder of the Elmsleigh Centre has kindly agreed to sponsor 4 mobility scooters for the next year. This sponsorship will cover the cost of servicing and maintaining the vehicles during this period. The charity would like to thank the Elmsleigh Centre for their generous support of our work.

Two Rivers Vehicle Sponsorship

This sponsorship will cover the cost of servicing and maintaining the vehicles during this period. Staines Shopmobility reaches milestone!

Staines Shopmobility has this week made its 50,000th loan of mobility equipment since opening in 1998. The landmark was reached when Shopmobility member Chris Bennett hired a mobility scooter and was presented with a bottle of bubbly to mark the occasion. Let’s all look forward to working hard to keep the service open and reaching 100,000 loans!

MidasPlus Donation

We are pleased to announce that MidasPlus have kindly donated £1,990 to purchase 2 new mobility scooters. This has enabled us to buy 2 Orion scooters, which went into service during August. The Orion scooters encompass the latest safety design features including brake lights and reverse warning beeper to ensure a safe, comfortable ride for members. The scooters are also fitted with crutch holders allowing members to get off the scooters when they are in the town. We would like to thank MidasPlus for their generous support of our charity.
