Xmas Grand Draw
Staines Shopmobility held its Xmas Grand Draw on December 22nd and winners were drawn by the Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of Spelthorne, Councillor Caroline Spencer. The Charity raised £796 from the draw and our thanks go to all those who donated prizes or bought tickets. We would also like to thank the Mayor for her continued support of Staines Shopmobility.
Spelthorne Borough Council Grant
Staines Shopmobility is pleased to announce that Spelthorne Borough Council has awarded the charity a grant of £30,000 for the financial year 2009/2010. This grant will enable the charity to continue providing its services to residents and visitors to Staines through the next financial year.
I’m sure you will all want to join the trustees, staff and volunteers of Staines Shopmobility in thanking Spelthorne Borough Council for their generous support. This funding demonstrates a commitment by Spelthorne Borough Council to help people with limited mobility to shop independently in Staines and is to be applauded by us all. Expenditure for the financial year 2009/2010 is projected to be £58,000 so this £30,000 will leave the charity needing to raise £28,000 through a mix of service charges, fundraising events and donations. Please visit the fundraising links on the left of this page if you wish to find ways to help support Staines Shopmobility.
Surrey County Council Local Committee
Staines Shopmobility has received a grant of £4,040 from the local committee of Surrey County Council. This grant is to enable the charity to replace its ageing mobility fleet, some of which have been in use for over 10 years now. The charity would like to thank the County Councillors representing Spelthorne that supported the application and made this possible.
BAA Community & Environment Awards
Staines Shopmobility recently applied to BAA for a grant of £2,500 to purchase new mobility equipment. The charity is pleased to announce that the application was successful and plans are being made to purchase 3 new mobility scooters. Staines Shopmobility wishes to thank BAA and Groundwork for their kind donation to assist the charity with its aims.
These grants will allow the charity to continue to meet demand for its services and ensure that its beneficiaries are not made to wait for mobility equipment. Without the new chairs, visitors would face increased waiting times leaving them less time in the town and increased parking charges. THe charity is therefore very pleased that these grants have been secured.
