Daily Mobility Equipment Hire
Staines Shopmobility has a wide selection of mobility equipment to enable visitors to access shops, restaurants and other town centre facilities.
The following equipment is available for hire:
Mobility Scooter
Staines Shopmobility currently has 15 four-wheeled mobility scooters for loan. Scooters are key operated and move forward and backwards by pressing a lever; the user simply releases the lever to stop the scooter. The scooter is steered via the handlebars in the same way as you would steer a bicycle. The speed the scooter travels at can be controlled via a knob situated on the control panel of the tiller.
Electric Wheelchair
Electric wheelchairs are operated by a directional joystick that the user pushes in the general direction they wish to travel. The speed of the chair is controlled via a knob situated to the rear of the control pad. Electric wheelchairs can be operated safely with one hand and Staines Shopmobility has both left and right hand controlled chairs available for use.
Manual / Transit Wheelchair
Manual wheelchairs have large rear wheels with push-rings to allow the user to propel the wheelchair without the need for a relative or carer to push them but can be pushed by a relative or carer if required.
Transit wheelchairs have a smaller rear wheel and require a relative or carer to push the chair for the user.
TGA Power Pack
The service also has a TGA Power Pack available for hire, which provides power to a manual wheelchair whilst the carer steers. The wheelchair is manoeuvred in exactly the same way as a normal manual wheelchair. This allows people who can’t use a powered wheelchair or electric scooter, and whose carer cannot push them over long distances, to access the town more easily.

Escorted Shopping Service
Staines Shopmobility offers an escorted shopping service for people with a visual impairment. This personalised shopping service allows you to choose which shops to visit and select products without the need to request assistance from a member of staff, enhancing your shopping experience. The service is available on a pre-booked basis only at the current charge of £5.
Holiday Hire Scheme
Staines Shopmobility has a number of manual wheelchairs available for short or long-term hire. Chairs can be used for trips such as holidays and visiting friends or relatives. Alternatively, you may have someone visiting you that would benefit from the use of a wheelchair during their stay.
Chairs can be hired overnight, for a weekend, weekly or fortnightly, with the option of extending the hire period up to a maximum of 8 weeks. Chairs are insured for use anywhere within the United Kingdom and Europe. Please notify us if you wish to take the chair outside of this region.
You must pre-book to use this service and a deposit of £50 is required, refundable on returning the chair in the same condition as when hired. Please contact us for full details of the scheme.

Information Service
Staines Shopmobility is able to offer a range of information on products and services relevant to elderly or disabled people. Free leaflets and brochures are available on a range of services, from the shop. Please call in to view available literature or contact us for further information.
Radar Keys
RADAR keys are available to purchase from the shop, priced £4 each. RADAR keys allow entry to all accessible toilets throughout the United Kingdom that are part of the National Key Scheme. A full list of accessible toilets can be viewed on the RADAR website.
